by | Apr 21, 2020 | OTHER OFFENCES

A business is an activity carried out on a continual basis for the purpose of gain. In Singapore, failure to register a business constitutes an offence under section 5 of the Business Names Registration Act (which came into effect on 3 January 2016) and is punishable under section 35(1) of the same act. Offenders can be fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to 2 years. Exceptions are stated in section 4 of the same act, and include individuals and firms of 2 or more individuals operating their business under only their full names.
