The answer truly depends on a case-to-case basis; however, the rule of thumb is that the more serious the crime is, the higher the chance of deportation. Our client’s husband was pleaded guilty and was serving his sentence. He was advised by his previous lawyer that he had nothing to worry about as his Employment Pass will not be revoked. Unfortunately, while he was serving his sentence, his wife received a call from the Immigration Office and the officer told her that her husband will be deported immediately upon completion of his sentence, and she was informed to buy air tickets. Feeling helpless, she immediately contacted us for advice on how to approach the matter. We had advised her accordingly and we were very happy to hear that she managed to buy sometime for her husband before he left the country permanently.
“My spouse had a brush with the law and had his pass revoked. This came as a shock to us. Desperately I called every lawyer in town to seek support. Ray was the only one who listened to me patiently and met me the very next day on an urgent basis. He could have charged me to write a letter for a special pass requesting to allow my spouse additional time in the country, however, in order to get the best outcome, advised that I do it myself and he checked it for me at no charge. We were granted a special pass for a week. On sharing the news with Ray I could genuinely feel his happiness for us. I will be coming back to Ray in the future to get more assistance in this case. He genuinely cares for people and his clients. He is patient and willing to brainstorm ideas. He asks questions to understand the complete picture before making any judgement. My family and I are truly grateful to him!” RQ, 4 May 2022
